Quabbin Valley-Pioneer Valley Merger

QUABBIN VALLEY AND PIONEER VALLEY BASEBALL LEAGUES AGREE TO MERGER

QVBL President Greg Scibelli & PVBL President Ron Totten shake hands on the agreement of the merger. Taken place January 13, 2026 at Ebenezer's in South Hadley.

The Quabbin Valley Baseball League (QVBL) entering its 30th season of operations, is pleased to announce that it has reached an agreement with the Pioneer Valley Baseball League (PVBL) to operate as one league beginning with the 2026 season.

The QVBL & PVBL finalized its merger agreement as of the PVBL’s most recent league meeting back on January 13th at Ebenezer’s in South Hadley. The QVBL executive board will run the administrative functions for both leagues and will combine resources while still allowing each league to have its own play independently. The playing structure of each league (now division) will not change.

QVBL President Greg Scibelli had this to say about the merger: “I think this is a great move for both leagues. The QVBL has been built around the idea of trying to achieve parity while the PVBL is a little bit more competitive. I believe the merger will allow us to offer two distinct brands of baseball that will be available to everybody in the region and beyond.”

“During the 2025 season, I personally had the opportunity to play three games in the PVBL and I was really pleased with the way the league was structured and how much fun the league was having. It is my goal to ensure that it keeps happening and that my (QVBL) board provides good administrative resources for the league going forward.”

PVBL president Ron Totten says that “This is an exciting time for adult baseball in Western Mass. The combination of two excellent leagues will provide even more opportunities for those wanting to play. I look forward to the future.”

QVBL VP Paul Iellamo said that "I see this merger as a win for all teams in both leagues. Combining our leagues allows us to strengthen adult baseball in Western Massachusetts, streamline operations, and build a unified future rooted in sportsmanship, tradition, and community."

The Quabbin Valley Baseball League operates as a 28+ age league with a 30+ age pitching requirement. The league primarily plays on Sunday mornings with an emphasis on parity amongst its members.

The Pioneer Valley Baseball League operates as an 18+ age league with exceptions on pitching eligibility based upon certain factors. The league primarily plays on Tuesday nights and Saturday mornings with an emphasis on strong competition and free recruiting to field the best roster possible.

More information will be made available in the coming weeks once details are finalized.
